NYE 2018 Las Vegas
You’d believe Las Vegas Strip was crazy enough: New Year’s Eve things get wilder when the notorious party town hosts one of the greatest parties of the year. The total Strip is cordoned off, opening it for a gigantic block bash holding 300,000 thirsty people. You can hang about on the Strip and party, or discover options stemming from a lot of ticketed events that run off the main drag.
When the watch strikes midnight, participating casinos initiate a synchronized fireworks display, that makes the Times Square’s ball drop look amateurish. If this isn’t your thing, you can proceed to the Old Vegas’ Fremont Street Experience, which hosts 9 hours of live music over 3 stages.

NYE 2018 Berlin
Warm up for NYE at the city’s yearly pancake race, where fancily dressed runners follow routes from 2 to 15 kilometres in Berlin’s arty Grunewalkdistrict, flipping pancakes through the route. In the evening, over a million people come together around the Brandenburg Gate and Victory Column for one of Europe’s largest open-air street parties, featuring bands and DJs.
There is no preset end time to this party and every year it lasts longer than the previous, so pace yourself, and be geared up to party until sunrise. Keep a keen eye out for musical luminaries such as David Hasselhoff and Jimmy Somerville, who are known to give surprise appearances round about NYE. NYE 2018 Hong Kong
As if Victoria Harbour wasn’t a stunning enough spectacle on its own, New Year’s Eve you can watch it under one of the world’s best pyrotechnic displays. There are numerous places you can view the fireworks, but suggested spots include from a boat on the harbour or one of countless bars in the Lan Kwai Fong neighbourhood. Many large-scale outdoor festivities also take place in various parts of the city.
Closer to midnight, rooftops around the harbour release a sequence of “shooting stars” so you can make a wish, which is succeeded by a replica of New York’s ball drop indicative of the 60-second countdown. New Year’s is celebrated two times in Hong Kong – the second time is to bring in the Chinese New Year.

NYE 2018 Goa
Asia’s most controversial beach party happens smack bang in the peak of Goa’s tourist season. Beeline to Anjuna Beach, one of Goa’s incomparable, longest beaches, where backpackers gather round bonfires, makeshift shacks and bars dotting the bamboo forests lining the beach, to wolf down drinks and watch the customary fireworks show at midnight.
There are more alluring parties to be had at Goa’s hotels and clubs: here you may bump into many a Bollywood or even Hollywood celebrity fleeing the glare of the paparazzi.

NYE 2018 Reykjavik, Iceland
This is the only place on earth where 500 tonnes of fireworks compete with the natural display of the northern lights, painting the normally black sky with streaks of pink, green and yellow, illuminating Iceland’s Mars-like landscapes in front of over two hundred thousand people.
Reykjavik’s legendary bars and clubs beckon until the wee hours of the morning.

NYE 2018 Sydney
A large number of ticketed parties line the harbour to kill time for the main event – the impressive fireworks display over the Harbour Bridge at midnight. There are also totally free events, licensed and booze-free – there is something for everyone – take your pick.
Of course the best place to be in for the Sydney NYE is on a private yacht, but we don’t know anyone fortunate enough to have experienced this yet. If fireworksare not something you fancy, head to Bondi, which hosts some of the most prestigious international names in dance music over an all-night party.

NYE 2018 New Orleans
If music is what gets you going, then NOLA is the place to be; more precisely, its famed French neighbourhoodin New Orleans. After a spectacular fireworksshow over the Mississippi, revellers can head to Jackson Square to witness live entertainment, or commonly referred to as “the liveliest kilometre on the planet” at Bourbon Street for clubbing, or cross over to Frenchman Street, where music clubs will light up your hearts with live bands until the sun rises.
NOLA’s pleasant climate means partying can be done outdoors; and it’s also one of those rare places where you can legally carry alcoholic beverages on the street.

NYE 2018 Rio de Janeiro
If getting lost between a rough crowd is your idea of a good night out, Rio is the place to be NYE. A staggering2 million people head to Brazil’s party city, donning white garb to partake in the most sensual new year’s celebration in the world.
At Copacabana, the choices are boundless, where you can gyrate to samba, electronica and rock music. Hotels are open all through, and customarily champagne is sprayed into the air and flowers thrown into the ocean as a good luck ritual. The customary fireworks are on at midnight – but you may not be impressed by them, because here it is more of a formality.

“You don’t have to be a maniac to be brave … but it helps” – Scotland’s biggest NY affair ends on New Year’s Day with an icy dive into the River Forth during subzero Edinburgh’s winter, a move capable to cure any persistent hangover.
